Will You Need a Grounded or Non Grounded Adapter for Pakistan?

The Deluxe Pakistan Adapter Plug Set comes with six adapters including grounded and non grounded plugs.  Whether you will be stationed in the coastal city of Pasni or the capital of Islamabad, these adaptors will allow your United States appliances to work in Pakistan.

The country of Pakistan is located in the Middle East and surrounded by the Middle Eastern country of Afghanistan, as well as India and China. If you will be traveling to the surrounding countries some of the adapters are interchangeable, but make sure you take with you the adapters that you will need for that country.

These adaptor plugs enable your appliance's plug configuration to fit into Pakistan electrical power outlets. Adapter plugs allow electrical connections up to 240 volts. An adapter plug does NOT change the current or voltage (this requires a converter) unless your appliance is dual voltage.  Check to see if your electric razor, battery charger, hair dryer or curling iron is dual voltage before leaving on your trip.  Grounded adapter plugs maintain the ground from the electrical outlet to your appliance.

Many of our customers find it handy to have multiple adaptors while traveling - either to run several appliances simultaneously or simply as a backup. Buy your adapter plugs for Pakistan before your departure.

Non-Grounded Adapter Plugs

Going In Style offers non-grounded adapter plugs for use with your voltage converter, transformer, or dual/multi voltage appliance. A non-grounded United States plug has two flat blades.

Cycles: 50 Hz vs. 60 Hz.

Pakistan operates on 230 volt electricity and is generated at 50Hz (Cycles) Alternating Current. United States 110-120 volt electricity is generated at 60Hz (Cycles) Alternating Current. This difference in cycles may cause the motor in your 60Hz United States appliance to operate slightly slower when used on 50Hz foreign electricity. Most modern electronic equipment including battery chargers, Lenovo, HP, Asus, Toshiba computers, iPods, etc., will not be affected by the difference in cycle.

Be sure to check each individual appliance to see if it is dual voltage.  You can watch Going In Style's video on how to check to see if your appliance is dual voltage.

Computers and Apple Products

If you are traveling overseas with a Toshiba, HP, Acer, laptop or Apple device such as an iPad, chances are you won’t need a voltage converter.  You will need to purchase a Pakistan adapter plug to charge your cell phone and iPad.  We recommend you buy your Pakistan adapter before you leave for your trip, so you can use your electric devices as soon as you land overseas. Most laptops are multi-voltage and will operate on voltages ranging from 100 to 240 volts. However, computers do need to make safe connections to foreign power systems and a surge protector is recommended.

About Pakistan

Geography

Pakistan is Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, between India on the east and Iran and Afghanistan on the west and China in the north and its area is twice the size of California. Its climate is mostly hot, dry desert; temperate in northwest; arctic in north. The terrain glaciated; mostly high plateaus and rugged mountains broken by fertile valleys; small, scattered plains; coastline deeply indented by fjords; arctic tundra in north. Pakistan has flat Indus plain in east; mountains in north and northwest; Balochistan plateau in west.

Currency

Currency in Pakistan is the Pakistan Rupee (PKR). Credit cards are accepted in high end restaurants, hotels and major stores. It is best to carry cash because most stores do not accept credit cards. Foreign currency and travelers cheques can be exchanged at banks throughout Pakistan.

Staying Connected

The telecommunications infrastructure in Pakistan is improving dramatically with foreign and domestic investments in fixed-line and mobile-cellular networks; system consists of microwave radio relay, coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, cellular, and satellite networks. Mobile-cellular subscribership has skyrocketed, exceeding 110 million by the end of 2011, up from only about 300,000 in 2000; more than 90 percent of Pakistanis live within areas that have cell phone coverage and more than half of all Pakistanis have access to a cell phone; fiber systems are being constructed throughout the country to aid in network growth; fixed line availability has risen only marginally over the same period and there are still difficulties getting fixed-line service to rural areas. When travelling to Pakistan you will want to take an international or unlocked cell phone with a prepaid Pakistan SIM card. You can also contact your mobile service provider to set up an international calling plan. You will need an adapter to charge your phone. Most cell phone battery rechargers should be multi-voltage, therefore will not require a converter. If the charger says 100-240 volts, 50-60 cycles then your charger in multi-voltage.

Pakistan has 340,834 internet hosts and over 20.431 million internet users. Internet access is available in internet cafes and hotels but internet can be expensive and the speed can be unpredictable . When traveling with your laptop or iPad you will need an adapter to charge your device.
